Videos from the Finale are here as I find them.

I can’t believe we have finally made it. After months of singing and torture, tonight we crown the winner. Will it be Blake or Jordin. DialIdol and my own instincts say it will be Jordin but of course we have been surprised before so I guess anything could happen. So sit back, relax and enjoy the finale. Ladies and Gents, The winner of American Idol 6 is: Jordin Sparks

Note : The finale was blogged live tonight by angie. Feel free to leave comments at anytime as the comments are open or use the chatbox on the sidebar.

What?! Huh?! What do you mean this is the LAST SHOW?! This will be my last blog here for the season? I’m getting a little verklempt. Hang on, while I get a tissue. Ok, thanks all, for putting up with my Idol ramblings week after week and a special thanks to Slim for giving me the keys to the place once a week! Love ya!

Here we go, guys! THIS is American Idol!!

The usual ‘meet the judges’ stuff with a Ryan/Simon exchange. Ryan tells Simon that he already looks bored and Simon says, “Because I’m listening to you.” Oh SNAP! You go Simon! You know you are my favorite judge. Randy is wearing another odd jacket tonight and Paula is there, I guess.

We start performances with Jordin and Blake singing “I Saw Her Standing There.” Blake treats us to a sort of ruffled shirt under his suit and Jordin looks gorgeous in one of probably MANY Badgley Mischka outfits. (I say Badgley Mischka as if I really know anything about fashion.) They did a really great job on the song. I’m happy for a good start to the show.

Oh, come on! We have to watch Gwen Stefani perform “via satellite” from her tour. Why?? I want duets with stars! I want some Taylor Hicks! I want one of the Idol contestants to sing, not show filler!! *sigh* By the way, Gwen? I love ya, girl, but UGLY outfit!

Kelly Clarkson! Awesome! She’s sporting the thigh-hi boots and looking a little vamp-ish but very pretty. However, the boots kind of make her look particularly short. Not that there’s anything wrong with that..but, um, never mind. She sounds great!

Another year of giving out the “Golden Idol” awards. The Golden Idol awards are given to the weirdos from auditions.

Best Presentation: Margaret Fowler (you may remember her as the odd lady in the big bird yellow outfit) She heads to the stage and pretty much ATTACKS Ryan with a kiss and then reads some strange poem. Ok, move along.

Top 6 guys sing a special arrangement by..someone, I missed who. They’re all in white and it’s great to see Brandon again. I really liked him. The song starts a little off with the harmonies, but gets better. Smokey Robinson sings “Being With You” and the guys sing a really HIGH back-up. Oh, wow, then we are blessed with the comedic moment of all 6 guys dancing. Now THAT was entertainment. Plus, added bonus, we didn’t have to listen to Sanjaya very much! (I’ll say it for the last time this season, Sanjaya seems like a great kid, but I just did not think he should have made the Top 24. He can sing. But I still think he sounds like that kid in high school who was in choir and everyone loved.)

Awww yeah….we got us some old school in da house now. Doug E Fresh is on with Blake! I’m lovin’ this! They have a beat-box off…um..ok, whatever you would call that. AWESOME!

Next Golden Idol award. (I said this in the shout box, but I feel like the people who “win” these “awards” are the only people who the producers were able to track down and convince to be on the show.)
Most Original Vocal: Sholandric Stallworth. Um, you may remember him singing, “If ever your in my arms again….” He wasn’t that memorable, really.

Top 6 girls perform “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.” My girl Lakisha kicks it!! Gina’s mic wasn’t turned up enough. Jordin sounded great. Haley sang a line or two. Aaand, we have Gladys Knight. Classy lady right there. The girls sing back-up on “Midnight Train to Georgia.” Lakisha and Melinda give me chills singing up front with Gladys. Awesome! Much more ‘awesomer’ than the boys in my humble little opinion. (I stuck the bad grammar in there just for Joyce. She’ll be itchin’ to fix it. hee hee)

Time for Tony Bennett. He was sick last time he was supposed to perform. Does he ever look good for his age! And he still sounds really good! You go, Tony! Awesome! We love ya!

Golden Idol Award.
Best Buddies: Jonathon and Kenneth. I KNEW they’d be back tonight. You will remember them as the “bush baby” and that sweet boy with the hawaiian shirt who became friends. This segment takes a really bad turn when they show a picture of an actual bush baby on the screen and then Ryan says something about them sponsoring one at some zoo somewhere. Ok, Idol producers, that was just bad. The extreme feeling of..uncomfortable..just can’t be conveyed here. You’ll have to watch it to see what I mean.

My vote? No more bringing people from auditions back on the show for finale. Leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Melinda performs with BeBe and CeCe Winans and they bring the house down!!

The ford Commercial is set to “Time After Time” and it’s outtakes of all the previous commercials.

Jordin looks GORGEOUS in a pink on pink dress. Ryan presents them with keys to their very own Mustangs. And on to Carrie Underwood singing “I’ll Stand By You.” I’m not lovin’ the semi dress thing over jeans, but she still looks great otherwise and sounds amazing as usual. I love that she hasn’t forgotten where she came from and keeps coming back to Idol.

Clive Davis is introduced and he is kind of escorted on stage by some random girl in a formal dress. He was walking too fast for her. Anyway, Clive lauds Daughtry for his/their success with the debut album. He mentions Taylor and Kat, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia etc. FINALLY, Clive gets to his point. He’s presenting Carrie with some sort of award commemorating 6,000,000 album sales. Yay, Carrie. Now bring on more performances.

The African Children’s Choir runs out to perform. Very cool. Sweet kids who sing better than almost the entire Top 24!

Sanjaya is introduced with some weird fan fare and the voice of the guy who does all the movie trailers. He sings “You Really Got Me.” All I can think is…MAKE IT STOP. Crying girl is in the audience crying again. *yawn* Sanjaya should NOT have gotten a solo. Enough already.

Green Day (?!) performs. More like Gag Day. I can’t stand them. Sorry Green Day fans. However, I appreciated the softer version of Green Day with none of that god-awful “singing” Billie Joe usually does. I’m thinking that song was called “Working Class Hero.” What do you guys think?

TAYLOR!! My god, that man is hot. I can’t help myself. I certainly wouldn’t kick him out of bed. Oh. Um. Did I just say that out loud? Back to the show. AWESOME job, Taylor!! And he breaks out the harmonica!!! LOVE him! LOVE. LOVETY. LOVE. Now ends the Taylor love-fest. For now.

Jordin and Ruuuuben Studdard perform. Aww, I LOVE Ruben. (yes, I know, who DON’T I love??) Another great performance for the night. Ruben looked very classy in a pinstripe suit. Gotta love a big man who dresses well! (I’m married to one.)

Whoa…did I miss anything? I kind of spaced it and I think a bunch of commercials just played. Yeah, anyway, Bette Midler is on singing “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Why, oh why can’t we have more of the top 2 or even the top 10 singing???

Medley of Sgt Pepper. Starts out with Kelly Clarkson and Joe Perry singing “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” followed by Taylor (!) in a (alliteration alert!) sort of shiny silver shirt singing..um..I forget the name of this song. Sorry. Carrie is next wearing a short little black number and the Top 12 back her up also wearing black and silver. Ruben’s up singing “Lucy In the Sky.” Someone get the man a towel to mop that sweaty head! Top 12 sings “A Little Help From My Friends.” My lord, you could not pay me to see this year’s concert. Not even with the promise of Lakisha, Jordin and Melinda.

Time’s almost up…

THE American Idol 2007 is : Jordin Sparks

Angie’s final thoughts. I am happy Jordin won. I think she is extremely talented and a genuinely nice girl. I think she is real and loves to sing and shows real emotion. I know how much people have hated her tears and think she is fake. I think that is just sad. People are so cynical that they can’t possibly believe that a young girl can be truly emotional and FEEL a song and be touched by her situation and opportunity. I for one am happy and I hope she finds success after the show.

Well, guys, that’s it. My last blog of the season. I’ve had a great time! Thanks, again, Slim! Thanks for letting me blog here and for providing this blog for all of us Idol-aholics! See you all around the shout box!!

Angie out.

:em58: The idols spent too much time in the background. Phil should have had a solo :em58: Agree w/Anne above except I loved Taylor’s performance as well.

:em34: :em34: Watching a lot of AI5 on Youtube and I forgot how good Taylor was and Elliott. Chris had less good performances, but I still think his cd is great and perfect for his style. (skip the Alice Cooper make-up!)

:em27: Then I fell in love with Clay Aiken watching youtube. Never saw him before and he’s a true American dream starting out as such a dork and turning to smooth as buttah!! :em50: His Jimmy Kimmel appearances show his personality!

Did anyone else miss American Idol this week ?? Seemed strange after 5 months that it’s over… :em28:

In my opinion, the finale was actually better than I thought it would be!
Best Performance: Blake and Doug E. Fresh
    Worst Performance: Bette Midler
Best Moment: Seeing Ryan get kissed by Big Bird (& watching Sanjaya enjoy his spotlight!)
Worst Moment: The entire ‘Bush Baby’ thing…
And for the record, because this has been really bugging me for not saying it on Tuesday – I love Chris Daughtry and all that, but he was wearing WAY too much eyeshadow! And it was so smooth on his eyelids it almost looked like cream eye shadow. Ew, gross. Eyeliner on a man I can take in small doses…but heavy eyeliner and really noticeable eye shadow? Absolutely not. This isn’t 1980′s Duran Duran anymore, people.
*Phew*. I feel better. Still love him, though!
Anyway, I’m glad to hear that this blog will stay alive so that next year we can do this all over again! Idol just wouldn’t be idol for me without this blog. Love you guys!
(P.S Since everyone is saying where they’ve been watching from, I watch every week from the Caribbean…that said, I’m heading off to the beach!)

I wasn’t too enthused about the finale after Melinda was voted out. Jordin and Blake are both talented in their genre but just didn’t reach out to me the way Melinda and Lakisha did. There were times Jordin was shown acting like a spoiled brat and immature (ripping the kleenex out of Lakisha’s hand ) and pul-ease.. the fake tears!! Vocally, she was not as strong as some of the other woman performers.

Blake on the other hand was not as strong as a singer but was original and just came across as a very nice guy. A great performer who could sing very well if he was comfortable with a song and able to put his own spin on it. I remember his wiping the tears from Lakisha’s eyes and other acts of kindness. To me that is a real american idol; someone who is compassionate and caring about others.

In the end, I think they are all winners, Jordin is one who needed to win the most to make it in the music industry. Without AI, I see her singing on cruise ships or at Disneyland. Blake was better off coming in second place. I wish them all the best in their musical pursuits, but in truth, the only CD’s I can see myself buying are those of Melinda’s and Lakisha’s.

Thanks Slim and Angie for all the work you do on this fun blog. This was my first time as a contributor and it was a lot of fun discussing AI with everyone. See you all on SYTYCD and next season of Idol.
You’re not actually going to compare Fantasia to Jordan are you? Come on, that’s simply rediculous. Fantasia may not be selling that many albums, but to compare her year with this one…..it’s not even close.

I don’t believe I am alone in my opinion. I think AI has hit it’s critical mass.

Let’s not forget that so many more are aware of just how fixed the show really is. AI will never release to the public the actual vote count. They are forever tampering with the talent in an effort to pimp one over the other. They will never fix the phone capacity issue…the list of issues goes on and on.
Yes, I AM comparing this SEASON to that. I didn’t care for that season and this season didn’t excite me as much as last. So, in MY mind, they are comparable. As for a comparison of Fantasia to Jordin. There IS no comparison to ME. I can not STAND Fantasia’s voice. At all. So, I think Jordin is better in many ways. However, if someone is a Fantasia fan, more power to them. I will never put anyone down for liking her. It’s called different tastes, preference and opinion. Makes the world go ’round, you know?

Geddy, I am sure MANY people agree with you. However, many more still love the show and all it’s flaws and will continue watching year after year.

As for the show being fixed in one way or the other, all I have to say about that is a great big DUH! That doesn’t change the appeal to me. It’s still an entertaining show and will keep me and many others coming back for more.
Sorry, I may be bitter and cynical…but I’m right.
How very haughty.

Look, I’m not trying to change your opinion, just stating mine. But the final question is, why are you still watching?

  11. bubba says:

Yes, Melinda did sing the word crack. In the song’s context, it is expressing the dangers of drug addiction.

I thought that Melinda getting to sing with the Winans was probably the highlight of her AI experience, and it was certainly the highlight of last night’s show for me.

  12. rei says:

it was a great night and i am happy with the result too…CONGRATS to Jordin as well as to blake for reaching that far.

GBU all guys….till next time…in the next seasons….
My thoughts exactly, the final would have been so much better with Jordin having some real opposition.

Congratulations on a superb blog, it was my first port of call every Wednesday and Thursday. You got it right most of the time. Look forward to logging on again next year.

It’s official…

American Idol has “jumped the shark”.

That was simply….well….garbage dressed up like caviar.

What a weak and uninspired year this was. The best performances where from previous winners. How many of you are seriously even considering seeing the tour, or buying an album?

I have Taylor’s, Chris’ and Elliot’s CD’s from last year, and I have downloaded singles from itunes from several others, and yes…I even saw them on tour.

Congrats America….you got your cookie-cutter AI winner. Not that Blake was really any better. The reality is (other than Dolittle) this year had almost no real talent or personality. Are we really supposed to believe this was the best top 24 that could be found in the entire USA????? What a joke.
Geddy, dear, it’s time for you to jump with the shark. Stop watching! It makes for a grumpy Geddy!

I have to disagree wholeheartedly that the show has jumped the shark. I don’t think it was as good as last year, but neither was the Fantasia year. Idol has several more good years left to rake in the dough. And I will be watching every one.
