The hint is in the air that American Idol judge Simon Cowell could call it quits after Season 8 due to his other shows.
“I’ll make a decision next year as to what I do as an on-screen judge because there is a big, big schedule now and I do two other shows (The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent), so it’s been hard,” Simon admitted in a conference call with reporters.
In previous interviews Simon has mentioned he would leave the show after 10 seasons.
What would American Idol be like without Simon at the judges table? Is this a reason Idol added a fourth judge this season, hoping to make an easier transition should Simon call it quits? Leave your thoughts in a comment and lets discuss.

A plane can’t fly without an engine, and Idol can’t fly without Simon. The show would crash and burn instantly if he ever left. I hope he is just bluffing once again when he talks about leaving. Simon IS American Idol, and American Idol IS Simon. End of story.
The show is about the talented young people…Simon is the icing on the cake…I hope he stays. But, with a loss, life does go on and so will AI.

Ok what is with all these “are the judges leaving?” things good god…
If Simon quits, the new judge would most likely be to ease the transition. It does seem a practical reason to add a 4th judge because the chemistry of Simon, Randy, and Paula has been successful for many years. I see no other practical purpose. I will have to see if anyone of them sides up with Simon as a bad guy, if so that would indicate to me this is his last season. If he leaves I’m not sure what will happen, but as they say in the biz, the show must go on.
I hope Simon doesn’t quit!!!!
