Update : Paula’s publicist says she isn’t leaving Idol
Paula Abdul is planning to bow out of American Idol! According to a source close to the reality judge, Paula, 45, who has been with the show for seven years, is developing new TV projects and is hoping to “transition” out of the Fox hit.
With her fellow judge, Randy Jackson, telling friends that American Idol has lost its magic, another Paula insider explains, “She knows that every season could be her last. Now she’s got a new secret venture that she’s really excited about.”
And with the addition of fourth judge Kara DioGaurdi for the upcoming eighth season, the judges desk won’t even be left short-staffed if Paula leaves.
Could that be a co-incidence, or were Fox bosses expecting the Opposites Attract singer to vacate her chair when they signed up her former roomate, Kara?

I am an AI fan and have been for a long time. A big part of why I watch is the fact that I have fun seeing Paula goof or come in drunk, I enjoy Randy’s personality and of course I think Simon is the only critique that matters, but the truth is that the three of them have made the show the sucess it is. The contestans we don’t know them unitil we start seeing them week after week and we either keep them or give them the boot. For me with Paula or Randy gone the show is a bust. I can always hear the results on the radio the next day, although I’m afraid that the readio stations don’t play the results any more. I have been against a fourth judge and I am all for Paula to stay in the show. The first shows next season will be crucial on me staying with the show or kissing it goodbye.

I guess I’m in the minority but I absolutely ADORE Paula and what she brings to the show, the more chemically induced the better.
I would be sad if she left – seriously.

I’ll admit she acts wacky, but we have no proof that she’s a drug user. I’ve seen interviews of her back in the 80’s and 90’s… even back to when she was a Laker girl… and she’s always talked with a slur and acted hyper and airheaded. I’m just sayin’
With Paula’s chemical induced dementia, she leave Idol every week and still manages to stay in her chair.

Whatever. I think it’s all just publicity – got to keep AI in the news even during the off-season. I think they will lose the ridiculous, comedic aspect (whether intentional or not) if Paula goes, because I get the impression that Kara is a bit more no-nonsense (and hopefully more coherent).
she isnt leaving idol. it is just the national enquirer making up stuff. Paula is expanding, yes. But she isnt leaving Idol. they seem to think that Paula can only handle one project at the time. Just like Cowell didnt leave Idol when he started X factor, she wont leave Idol to focus on this las vegas thing
